Where do the Settlement’s Interests Lie?

In making grants the Trustees seek to continue the Settlors’ interests while expanding them to encompass other causes. Although the Trustees have a wide discretion, they mainly entertain applications from charities based in Oxfordshire. All funding requests must be submitted through our online application form. Please note we do not accept applications received by post. If you do consider applying to The Pye Trust, you should ensure that your proposal is closely aligned with the trustees interests in Alleviating hardship, Education and Environmental projects below.

Alleviation of Hardship in Oxfordshire

Our mission is to alleviate hardship in Oxfordshire by addressing poverty, the cost-of-living crisis, and areas of deprivation. We support charities that support families and individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, adverse childhood experiences, in crisis, and other significant hardships. Partnering with charities that create life-changing impacts, we aim to help the people of Oxfordshire.

Our exclusions

We award grants to charities across Oxfordshire. Typically, we do not support charities outside Oxfordshire unless they have a substantial presence in the area and ongoing projects that need support. We only support charities registered with The Charities Commission. We do not support organisations that are not registered charities, such as Community Interest Companies or voluntary groups.

Here is a list of charities and organisations we do not support:

  • Grants, bursaries etc. to individuals
  • Promotion of religion, churches, or restoration of church buildings
  • Heritage sites and building restoration
  • Music and the arts, including orchestras, musicians, choirs, or any music societies
  • Overseas charities or institutions
  • Museums and galleries
  • Animal charities, unless the objective is to improve the lives of vulnerable or disadvantaged people
  • CIC’s, voluntary groups

This policy ensures that our support is focused on registered charities with a substantial presence and active projects within Oxfordshire. By adhering to these guidelines, the trustees uphold the vision of establishing the Settlement as a major independent source of funding for charitable causes in Oxfordshire. This approach ensures that the Pye name continues to be associated with benevolence within the County.
